The Fresh Prince

Written by Erik Rapson on December 18th, 2008 3:58 PM

She reaches out with that slender, delicate hand and evaporates the danger before it takes its usual toll. You seemingly fall to your death, yet she’s right there to pull you up and away from the corrosive depths. The motions are there: rhythmic platforming, daring combat, all the stumbles and spills, too. But death, in the traditional sense, never greets our princely hero. Continue »

Heart of Ambition

The sun shines brightly on the parched plains and lush jungles of Africa, but rarely is it a place enveloped by goodness or radiance. With enough bloodletting, corruption, and political strife to make former series lead Jack Carver run for the hills, Far Cry 2 is an experience enlightened by the darkness of its landscape. With unbridled dynamism and a malleable narrative, developer Ubisoft Montreal aspires to the height of realism, perhaps even too much so. Continue »

Splinter Cell Conviction Delayed, Reminding People It Exists *Updated*

Written by Erik Rapson on May 20th, 2008 3:51 AM

Earlier this week it dawned on me that there is a game called Splinter Cell Conviction. Remember? Sam Fisher went all Bourne with a man purse, crowd stealth and using anything and everything as a weapon. It looked pretty good, but what the hell happened?

Please sir, all I wanted was some spare change

Wonder no more, because a year of radio silence has been broken. According to Xbox World Magazine by way of CVG, the title is indeed “delayed”. Yeah, that’s an understatement.

We won’t see the new Sam Fisher until 2009 or even as late as 2010. It’s back to the drawing board since Ubisoft feels the initial design concepts aren’t as fresh as they once were.

Look for an official statement from Ubisoft, the perfect opportunity being next week at their UbiDays event in Paris.

UPDATE: According to Ubisoft, “There is no official comment on this story, which is based on a purely speculative news piece”

Again, just wait for official news on the title.

Tom Clancy Wants Your Cash Monnies, And It’s Still Worth It

Back in 2006 there were two games duking it out for your attention; Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas. With the hype meter set on overdrive for Epic’s stop and pop shooter, it was surprising when Ubisoft Montreal’s reboot of the Tom Clancy tactical action game busted down the holiday doors and stole some of Gears of War’s thunder. You could argue forever as to which one was better, but ultimately Vegas probably stole more of your time with its deep multiplayer offering. A little over a year later, we have a sequel in the form of Rainbow Six Vegas 2. It may tread a little too closely to expansion pack territory, but it is definitely a reason to hop back into the city of sin and breach and clear your way through hordes of terrorists. Continue »
