Since When Was Gardening So Hypnotizing?

Written by Erik Rapson on August 13th, 2008 7:42 PM

Beautiful and mysterious, PixelJunk Eden is a dizzying display of artistry. Carefully walking a line of Zen-like tranquillity and addictive high score aspirations, it’s an inspired and euphoric mix.

And it’s largely elusive to definition. But if Eden is to be articulated, then it plays, presentably, like Spider-Man’s narcotic induced trip into the realm of two dimensions: meandering through strange neon gardens, growing them to bold new heights by catching pollen with his wavering twine and evading bizarre baddies of shifting geometric form. Written by Erik Rapson on June 30th, 2008 2:22 PM

PSN Firmware Update v.2.40, it’s not a very catchy name. But all the features that it’s bringing are certainly catchy. In one fell swoop it’s pushing the Playstation Network to tread ever close to Xbox Live’s turf. The Director of PSN Operations, Eric Lempel, has filmed a couple walkthroughs of all the rumoured (and now confirmed) features included in the update. Enjoy.

Rumour: Firmware 2.4 Details Revealed

Written by Erik Rapson on June 25th, 2008 12:47 PM

CVG have claimed that they have gotten their hands on all sorts of details regarding the Playstation Network’s firmware updated 2.4, the one with in-game XMB.

Apparently the new trophy system won’t be using an Xbox Live style gamerscore, but a leveling up bronze, silver, gold and platinum system akin to something like Call of Duty 4. Platinum is only awarded when all other trophies have been collected in the game.

They went on to reveal that the update will be released in roughly 3 weeks, a time that conveniently falls around E3 time.

Here is a list of the possible features:

In-Game XMB And “Trophies” Are Officially On Their Way

Written by Erik Rapson on June 17th, 2008 8:46 PM

After months of speculation, leaked videos and even teasing from Sony themselves (pictured below), in-game XMB has finally been announced. It will become available via the v.2.40 Firmware update, which will also sees the debut of the trophy system — Sony’s answer to Xbox Live’s achievement points.

But before you can start your hunt for those gamer digits — which ultimately result in a meaningless number beside your PSN ID — v.2.36 Firmware  will come before it, rendering your wait even longer. More details will be revealed soon.

Sony’s Qore: Gaming Show and Pay For Content Service

Written by Erik Rapson on June 3rd, 2008 12:25 PM

This morning Sony announced, by way of the Playstation Blog, that they will be rolling out a new interactive gaming show called “Qore”, which also acts as a means to gain access to exclusive PS3 content. Themes, art, demos, betas and many other downloads will only be available through the new gaming-show-disguised-as-pay-for-content-service.

But at 2.99 an episode, or 24.99 for an annual subscription it isn’t that steep considering you get Calling All Cars for free, should you choose the annual fee. Plus, the basics of the PSN Network remain, such as free online play and rest assured that this is not going to be the sole way to deliver content to PSN users.

As for this week’s episode airing on Thursday, gamers will gain access to the SOCOM: Confrontation Beta as a bonus for shelling out 2.99. For those interested in the show itself, there will be previews for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Secret Agent Clank, Soul Calibur 4, Afro Samurai and SOCOM: Confrontation.

As you should expect, Qore will have some sort of tie-in to Home. Although, much like that service, not much is known as of yet.

It’s something of a sneaky way to get users to pay for content, but it was only a matter of time before Sony rolled out their own way to capitalize on the thirst for downloads. The upside: it’s entirely optional.

After a only week since the demo became available, echochrome’s associate producer has confirmed that the full game will be available for download tomorrow (May 1st) on the Playstation Store.

Both the PS3 and PSP versions will be available for $9.99, each with their own 56 unique levels. There is also a level creator that is sure to get the gears turning in your brain. If you happen to be any good others can download your levels and judge for themselves.

Check out the demo if you are still sitting on the fence, this mind bending puzzler has certainly caught our attention.
