The Wonders of the Fast Forward Button

After being mostly enthralled for several hours by a well paced mix of third person action, puzzles and sweeping set pieces, you’re along for the entertaining but incredibly rocky ride that is Atari’s reboot to Alone in the Dark franchise for the Xbox 360. However, before you can reach the final act that is teasingly waved in your face, an effort to extend the life of this brief, yet action packed, survival action romp is made. Rather than sticking with what worked for the preceding hours, Eden Games, the developer of this attempted series rebirth, kick you in the face and throw you into an open world Central Park in which you’re forced to hunt down dozens of “evil root things” scattered across a frustrating landscape. These last few hours shine a light on the games glaring flaws and it can only be described as a tedious nightmare of a fetch quest. Needless to say, the experience nearly comes to a crashing halt. Alone in the Dark Arrives With New Trailer

After a four year development cycle, Eden’s ever so ambitious Alone in the Dark is making its way onto store shelves this week — although PS3 owners will have to wait until the Fall. The jury is still out as to whether or not the game can become everything it has been striving to be, but we’ll let you know in our review that should be coming sometime this week. But for now, enjoy another well crafted trailer that features some undeniably epic set pieces and some rather weak voice acting.
