Batman Arkham Asylum: A Proper Look

Written by Erik Rapson on September 13th, 2008 7:38 PM

Batman Arkham Asylum continues to be a pleasant surprise, or at least it seems like one. With the Joker running amuck in the dark dank halls of Gotham’s institute for the criminally insane, it seems like an experienced enlightened to the ways of BioShock; keeping gameplay focused through a rich, dense world. Still, this is a Batman game, so keep those expectations in check. Hit the jump for some proper screens — rather than muddy magazine scans — which certainly show that at the very least, the game will look mighty fine.

Fallout 3 Interview and Screenshots

Written by Erik Rapson on July 15th, 2008 2:27 PM

Some gamers are in a fuss about Fallout 3, but you can’t please people with rather irrational expectations — unless of course you stick with decade old design choices. For those without pipe dreams, or a fundamentalist attachment to nostalgia, Fallout 3 is everything it should be. Here are a slew of new screens and an interview with the game’s producer, Todd Howard.

Mirror’s Edge New Trailer and Interview

Written by Erik Rapson on July 10th, 2008 12:05 PM

What’s the colour of control? In the world of Mirror’s Edge it’s the absence of colour; a stark white. Blue, red, yellow, orange; freeing symbols that point to where the game’s heroin, Faith, can skim the rooftops with her daring athleticism, leaping above the dystopia below.

DICE developed and EA published Mirror’s Edge was announced mere months ago and, on looks alone, it’s already sticking out from a very cluttered, brown, gray and just plain dull crowd. This newly released trailer offers some more insight into the game’s appealing narrative and, below it, is a new interview with senior producer Owen O’Brien. Enjoy, and expect much more at E3 next week.

Too Human Screens: Tyr, God of War

Written by Erik Rapson on July 8th, 2008 2:37 PM

Despite all the whirling controversy of late surrounding Too Human — specifically the review-like previews and Dennis Dyack’s “social experiment” on the NeoGaf forums — there still lies an undeniably great concept behind all the dust that has been kicked up.

Playing as a reimagining of Norse Mythology with a sci-fi twist, Dyack and his crew at Silicon Knights are looking to craft the narrative as an allegory for the influence of technology on our modern world. While we will have to wait and see whether those lofty ambitions come to fruition, there is always the fantastic mythos of the Norse to fall back on.

Featured in these new screenshots is Tyr, son of Odin and god of war. Further explanations could be given about his role in the real Norse pantheon, but that would just give away key plot twists for those uninitiated in the mythology. Instead, read the character bio, which will keep you guessing until the game’s release later this summer. It will be an interesting event to say the least.

Fallout 3 Fan Interview: Tons of Info, Chilling Screens

Written by Erik Rapson on July 7th, 2008 8:19 PM

Over on the Bethesda forums a second fan interview has been posted, providing fresh details on Fallout 3, the third entry in the almost frighteningly revered apocalyptic RPG series. The interview covers everything from the inability to kill children (oddly, two questions are asked about that one… weirdoes), to dialogue trees, to the freedom of player choice and much, much more.

Also included were a few brand new screens, one of which shows off the appropriately named Megaton Bar, with its ominous interior and equally unsettling bartender.

Updated: The full interview is below, enjoy.

Steampunk Civil War: Damnation Screenshots

Written by Erik Rapson on July 7th, 2008 2:03 PM

Think Wild Wild West without Will Smith and Kevin Kline but keep the cleavage and what you might get is Damnation, the Blue Omega Entertainment developed and Codemasters published steampunk shooter. Taking place in a 40 year American Civil War you’re a rebel looking to take down both sides. Lots high flying shooting and train chases ensue, as these screens would suggest.

Four New Halo Wars Screens

Written by Erik Rapson on July 3rd, 2008 9:50 PM

The news on Halo Wars, the Ensemble Studios developed Xbox 360 RTS, has run a bit dry of late. The game was barely mentioned at Microsoft’s spring showcase. But starting with these new shots, boasting some crisp visuals, info will probably be flooding in and around E3 time. Check back soon and often, maybe we’ll even hear about that Peter Jackson Halo project, just maybe.
